The Dangers of Online Pharmacies

Shopping online can be a great thing — it’s convenient and you can have the items shipped directly to your door in a matter of days.

But when it comes to buying prescription drugs online, that’s just not an option you should consider.

There are a few reasons why online pharmacies are so dangerous, and these reasons are significant simply because the risks are so great. Unlike a local pharmacy, online pharmacies aren’t equipped with the newest technology, like retail pharmacy POS systems and pharmacy software with updated legal regulations, to ensure that every single prescription sent out is completely legal and is sent to the right person.

As a consumer, this is very dangerous. Without the help of monitoring software on a POS system, there’s no way to ensure that you’re purchasing a drug that’s both legal and safe. Many prescriptions sold online are actually illegal in the U.S., or at best, they haven’t been approved by the FDA to ensure that they’re safe.

Many times, rogue online pharmacies will neglect to include the active ingredient in a prescription in order to make more money off of fewer orders; in other cases, an online pharmacy might choose to include the wrong active ingredient entirely. Whether the active ingredient is left out or is at a lower dose, this can be really bad news for the person who needs to take the medication.

The lack of regulation is really the most pressing issue behind online pharmacies — without this regulation, there’s simply no way to ensure that consumers are protected. The scary part is that thousands, if not millions, of people still shop at these online stores each year. So now it’s time for you to decide, is that something you’re willing to risk?
